THE BEST PARTNERSHIPS IN CRICKET'S HISTORY


  1. Test- Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene (624 Runs for the 3rd wicket)
In 2006 during the late summer South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka took place. A remarkable event happened in the first test match which was recorded in golden words in test cricket’s history.
In this match played at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo,South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first. But, the complete team was bowled out at 169 runs with Muthaiah Murlitharan and Dilhara Fernando taking 4 wickets each.

Next Sri Lanka came to bat and both the openers, Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasurya got out early. After that came to bat Kumar Sangakkara at no. 3 and Mahela Jayawardene at no. 4 who built a partnership of 624 runs with Sangakkara scoring 287 and Jayawardene scoring 374 . Their partnership comprised of 78 fours and 1 six which was hit by Jayawardene. This partnership was broken was caught behind the stumps by Mark Boucher.

Sri Lanka went on to post 756 runs declaring their innings with the loss of just 5 wickets.
Later, Sri Lanka won this match by an innings and 153 runs as the visitors managed to score 434 in their second innings.

2. ODI Cricket-Cristopher Henry Gayle and Marlon Samuels (348 Runs for the 2nd Wicket)
This record was made during the 2015 World Cup in which Australia and New Zealand were the hosts. In a match of pool BWest Indies had to take on Zimbabwe at Manuka Oval, Canberra.

This was the 15th match of pool B and West Indies won the toss and chose to bat first. Dwayne Smith opened the innings with Christopher Henry Gayle. But, Smith was bowled out by Zimbabwean pacer Panyangara in just the second ball of the match. Marlon Samuels came to bat at no. 3 position and they both built a partnership of 348 runs smashing 21 fours and 19 sixes collectively. Needless to mention, out of those 19 sixes, 16 were hit by Chris GayleChris Gayle scored 215 runs. Chris Gayle was out at the 49th over with Hamilton Masakadza taking his wicket. But, till then, ‘Gayle Storm’ had already caused the damage.

Zimbabwe came to bat next and they scored 289 runs with Sean Williams scoring the highest 76.
West Indies beat Zimbabwe by 76 runs and won the match. But, it was a good competetion which Zimbabwe batting line up put against the West Indian bowlers.

3. T20- Virat Kohli and Abraham Benjamin de Villers (229 runs for the 2nd Wicket)
This IPL match was held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on 14 May,2016 against Gujarat Lions. In this match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru batted first. Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli were the openers. But, Chris Gayle got out early and AB de Villers came to bat at no. 3.

These two explosive batsmen scored 229 runs collectively with Virat Kohli scoring 109 from 55 balls and AB de Villers scoring 129 from just 52 balls. RCB scored a massive 172 in the last 10 overs due to this duo.

Later on, RCB went on to win this match with a margin of 144 runs which remains the biggest victory margin in IPL.
